The Chair

Such a simple thing, a chair.

A useful tool for those who've stood on weary feet too long.

And still, it bothered me, seeing it there at the other end of the table, across from me.

An unfamiliar face, a strange form occupying the spot, filling the chair.

Though this new image brought an ache to my heart, I made effort not to show it.

After all, she's happy now.

I'll get used to it in time, maybe.
